Voters choose parliament as Sweden Democrats seek Cabinet seats
Swedes are voting today in an election that could change both the prime minister and the makeup of the government. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has promised Cabinet positions to the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats if his bloc wins; the party currently supports his government from outside it. No election result is available in this morning’s reporting.
Why Americans should know: Sweden is a NATO ally whose government helps shape European defense cooperation. Support for Ukraine remains broad across the main political camps, so a change in leadership would not automatically mean a reversal.
